Harriet Wistrich
Harriet Wistrich trained to be a lawyer in her early 30s after co-founding the group Justice for Women and campaigning around the cases. As well as being a regular commentator on news and media stories, her work as a lawyer has been featured in a number of articles and documentaries. She has written a number of comment pieces in national newspapers including the Guardian, iNews, Daily Telegraph and Evening Standard, as well as articles for academic publications including Criminal Law Review and Political Quarterly. She is co-author of The Map of My Life: The Story of Emma Humphreys. She has contributed chapters to the forthcoming Women Who Kill Their Abusers: Theory and Practice to be published by Routledge.
She is also the author of a 10 part manifesto for change around women and the criminal justice system featured as a blog on the Centre for Women’s website.
She has received a number of awards in recognition of her legal work including, Liberty Human Rights Lawyer of the Year 2014, Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year 2018 and Law Society Personality of the Year 2019.
Her book Sister In Law, will be published in May 2024 with Transworld.
