Dean Atta

Dean Atta is the author of the poetry collection I Am Nobody’s Nigger, which was shortlisted for the Polari First Book Prize. The Black Flamingo, a young adult novel in verse, was published by Hachette Children’s Books, and won the American Library Association’s Stonewall Book Award and CILIP Carnegie Shadowers Choice Award, as well as being shortlisted for the Books Are My Bag Reader Award, CILIP Carnegie Medal, Jhalak Prize, YA Book Prize. He was listed as one of the most influential LGBT+ people in the UK by the Independent on Sunday, and featured in the Out News Global Pride Power List. He co-produces and co-hosts spoken word supper club Come Rhyme With Me alongside Deanna Rodger, is a member of Keats House Poets Forum and Malika’s Poetry Kitchen, is co-director of the Scottish BAME Writers Network, and a patron of LGBT+ History Month. His first picture book, Confetti, will be published by Hachette Children’s Group. He is currently working on his next YA novel, Only on the Weekends (Hachette Children’s Books), his first work of adult non-fiction, Person Unlimited (Canongate, Spring 2024) and a new poetry collection.
